    School Packed Lunches

    Dear parents and Carers

We understand that as we are only offering packed lunches some of you may choose to provide your own packed lunch. We do hope that this will only be a temporary arrangement.

However please can you help us.

If your child is NOT having a school packed lunch, and previously have had school hot lunches, PLEASE can you inform the office via email enquiries@pennsji.bham.sch.uk as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

    Bags in school

    Dear Parents and Carers
some of you have been asking about pupils bringing bags. We have thought about this and would ask that children do not bring bags unless it is absolutely necessary. Please consider the following:
In order to prevent the spread of the virus our aim is to minimise anything brought to and from home.
Children are NOT accessing the cloakroom or lockers so any bags brought to school remain under the children's desk throughout the day.
We do not want children to bring any other unnecessary items into school which using a bag may encourage.
Children can easily carry a lunchbox and drinks bottle without a bag.
Snack could be put in a lunchbox rather than a separate box.

Thank you for helping us in this matter. Having no bags in our classrooms (some year groups are bag free!) has made a big difference to space, ease of movement and the safety of our school.

    Best regards,

If your child has a cold...

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We are heading into cough and cold season and you can appreciate that this makes determining whether you or your child is symptomatic more complicated.

Here are the symptoms. They remain the same.

    Main symptoms - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
    • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
    • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
    • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
More guidance can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance

If your child has a cold that does not contain one of these symptoms, ie a ‘snuffly nose’, they should be in school. Children will be guided to follow good respiratory hygiene, putting tissues straight in the white pedal bins provided and washing/gelling hands.

If we felt your child was displaying any of the Covid 19 symptoms, we would call you immediately.

Thank you to those parents who have spoken to us about their child having a cold. We appreciate you are trying to be as careful as we are.
